Esprit pop, es-tu là ?
Les Franciscaines, Deauville, France
January 28, 2023 - June 25, 2023

The Carmignac Collection will be making a stop-over in Deauville for the exhibition Esprit pop, es-tu là?, devoted to the pop years and the influence they still exert today.
From Andy Warhol to Roy Lichtenstein, from Ed Rusha to Keith Haring, ten major works from the Carmignac Foundation will be featured in the exhibition, which will be presented at Les Franciscaines in Deauville.
Between pop and psychedelia: an energising time capsule of 1960s culture!

The "Spirit of Pop, are you there?" exhibition is similar to a "seance". Today, at Les Franciscaines, can we make contact with the spirits of the "pop" ancestors (from Warhol to Klein)? And see what has been passed on, for example, in the work of contemporary artists such as Valérie Belin, Nina Childress, the street artist Shepard Fairey or the photographer Matt Henry, inspired by a "pop revival".
The exhibition aims to convey something of the period's euphoria and zeal for psychic discovery. Looking at a society recovering from the black and white pain of the war and touched by the miracle of colour, our contemporaries will no doubt be better placed to understand what is lacking in our own times. No doubt we will see, in the art works, photographs, music, record covers and films – including Pierrot le Fou! – the artists' surprising capacity to create the future and to dream. In the film trip Yellow Submarine, comic books starring a pop woman, Barbarella, or a space hero, Loane Sloane… The pop revolution opened the "doors of perception", albeit with the help of LSD, and promoted psychedelic aesthetics, forms and colours to be seen at the time in San Francisco, in concert posters and light shows…
